Artis Pura is owned and led by trade-qualified picture framer Lil Crump, who completed her apprenticeship under founder Erin Pearson before taking over the business in 2025. Today, she continues Artis Pura's commitment to inspired design, superior service and conservation-standard framing, while bringing her own creative background in the performing arts, textiles, restoration and handcrafted finishes to every project.
Founded by Erin Pearson in 2012, the studio quickly earned a reputation for thoughtful design, exceptional craftsmanship, and a genuine respect for the artworks, objects, and memories entrusted to its care. From fine art and antique frames to textiles, memorabilia and restoration projects, every piece was approached with patience, skill and careful attention to detail.
Those values continue to guide Artis Pura today.
Whether you’re framing a contemporary artwork, a treasured family photograph, an antique tapestry, a bark painting, a piece of memorabilia, or something wonderfully unusual, my hope is that you leave the studio feeling inspired.
Artis Pura remains a place where craftsmanship meets creativity, where conservation sits alongside colour and experimentation, and where every project is approached with the same care we would give to our own treasured objects.
A Legacy Continued
I first discovered Artis Pura while walking past the studio with my son. What stopped me in my tracks was the atmosphere of the workshop: native timber frames, antique mouldings, a variety of restoration projects in progress, and a palpable reverence for both the artwork and the person bringing it through the door.
I was fortunate to complete my apprenticeship under Erin, learning not only the technical skills of fine art framing, conservation, and restoration, but also the importance of listening. Every project begins with thoughtful questions. The best framing solutions come from carefully balancing design, conservation, craftsmanship, budget, the character of the artwork, and the aspirations of the person bringing it through the door. More often, it's finding the point where all of those considerations come together to create the right outcome for both the artwork and the client.
In 2025, I was honoured to take over the reins of Artis Pura and continue its next chapter from our Archerfield workshop

I've always been happiest making things. My path to picture framing wound through the performing arts, costume making, puppetry, and a lifetime of creative pursuits before eventually leading me to Artis Pura. Looking back, framing feels like a natural meeting place for everything I already loved — making, restoration, textiles, colour, design and working with my hands.
Those experiences continue to shape the way I approach every project today. I specialise in native timbers, antique frames, restoration, gilding and conservation framing, working collaboratively with every client to create a solution that feels both beautiful and considered. I will never push the newest or most expensive option; often the most meaningful outcome lies in honouring what already exists.
Every project begins with listening. I enjoy asking questions, exploring possibilities, and finding the balance between thoughtful design, conservation, craftsmanship, and the individuality of both the artwork and the person who brings it through the door. Every framing decision should have a reason, because no two artworks—and no two clients—are ever quite the same.
For me, framing is not simply about presentation. It's about preserving the things we value, respecting their history, and creating something that will be loved for years to come.
My path to picture framing wasn't a straight one. Years spent in theatre, circus and costume making taught me to think about colour, composition, texture and craftsmanship in ways I still draw on every day.
Part of the creative community
Artis Pura is proud to support the people and organisations that make our creative community such a vibrant and inspiring place to be.
Artis Pura believes that a thriving arts community benefits everyone. Alongside our day-to-day work in framing and restoration, we are proud to support local artists, schools, charities, galleries, and community organisations through sponsorships, donations, and collaborative projects.
Over the years, we have contributed framing services and support to fundraising initiatives, educational programs, and cultural events across Queensland, helping worthwhile organisations showcase their work and achieve their goals.
This commitment reflects a simple philosophy: craftsmanship should extend beyond the objects we frame and into the relationships we build. Whether mentoring emerging creatives, partnering with local galleries, or supporting community fundraising events, we're proud to play a small part in strengthening the cultural fabric of our region.
Artis Pura is proud to support The Churchie Emerging Art Prize, one of the countries longest running and most respected awards for emerging contemprary artists. Supporting artists at the beginning of their careers is something I genuinely value and its a priviledge to contribute to a prize that has championed new voices in Australian art for nearly 4 decades.

Framing for artists, exhibitions and collections
Artis Pura believes that exceptional art deserves exceptional presentation. We work closely with emerging and established artists to create frames that not only enhance the visual impact of their work but also help protect it for exhibitions, collectors, galleries, and future generations.
Our approach is grounded in the understanding that framing is an extension of the creative process. The right materials, thoughtful proportions, and conservation-minded techniques can elevate a piece while preserving its integrity and longevity.
We also recognise that artists work within real-world budget constraints. By producing many supports and components in-house and sourcing quality materials directly, we are able to offer practical framing solutions across a range of budgets, without compromising on craftsmanship or presentation.
Our experience working with artists extends from individual works and first exhibitions to larger bodies of work prepared for galleries and art prizes. We are happy to discuss the practical considerations of framing, mounting, glazing and presentation, and to help artists find an approach that suits both the work and its intended setting.
Your Questions, Answered
A few things people often ask before bringing something in.
-
Almost anything that can be safely and appropriately displayed. I frame original artworks, prints, photographs, textiles, memorabilia, certificates, objects and all sorts of treasured and unusual things.
If you're not sure whether something can be framed, bring it in or get in touch. I enjoy working out what's possible.
-
I specialise in the restoration, repair and gilding of frames. This can range from repairing damaged mouldings and finishes to more extensive restoration, re-gilding and sympathetic refurbishment of antique and older frames.
If the artwork itself needs restoration or conservation, I can help you find an appropriate specialist. I work with a network of professionals and can point you in the right direction.
-
Absolutely. Choosing a frame is a collaborative process. I start by listening and asking questions about the artwork, where it will live, how it will be displayed and what you like.
From there, we can explore materials, colours, proportions, finishes, mounting and glazing to find a solution that feels right for both the artwork and its owner.
-
Yes. Conservation-minded framing is standard practice at Artis Pura.
Every piece that comes into the workshop is treated with the same care and respect, regardless of its monetary value. Where appropriate, I use conservation-quality materials and reversible techniques as standard practice, including Japanese hinging and other reversible mounting methods. Matboards, backing materials and glazing are selected with the long-term care of the artwork in mind.
Not every artwork requires the same level of specification. I will talk you through the options, considering the artwork, its condition, where it will be displayed and your budget, to find the right balance between protection, presentation and cost.
-
Timeframes vary depending on the complexity of the project and material availability, but most custom framing is completed within a few weeks. . A straightforward frame may take less time than a large, complex or highly detailed piece, and some materials or specialist work may require additional time. If you have an exhibition, gift, or special deadline, let us know and we'll do our best to accommodate it.
-
Yes. I work with emerging and established artists, galleries, collectors and people preparing work for exhibitions and art prizes.
I can help with individual pieces or larger bodies of work, and I'm happy to work within different budgets and presentation requirements.
-
Please do.
You don't need to know what kind of frame you want before you come in. Bring the piece into the studio and we can look at the possibilities together. You're also welcome to bring in a frame you've inherited, found or already have at home — sometimes there's plenty there to work with.
If bringing the piece in isn't practical, you can get in touch or send me a photograph and I'll help you work out where to start.
From contemporary artworks and heirlooms to personal keepsakes and restoration projects, Artis Pura approaches every piece with craftsmanship, sensitivity, and care. We’d love to welcome you into the studio and help find the right solution for your work.
Not sure where to begin? Get in touch and we can work it out together.
