Be Inspired

Before & Afters

Sometimes a frame needs little more than a careful clean, a fresh coat of paint or a gentle sanding and waxing to reveal the beauty beneath years of wear. Other times, damaged corners need repairing, a frame needs resizing or or its finish needs to be completely reimagined. Sometimes all an artwork needs is a nfresh matboard and new glazing.

If you have an old frame sitting at home, bring it in. I can often repair, resize, recolour, re-wax or restore an existing frame, giving it a new purpose rather than starting from scratch. I also have a growing collection of pre-loved and second-hand frames in the workshop, available to be matched with new artworks, photographs and objects.

These before-and-after projects show some of the ways an existing frame or artwork can be given a new lease of life — through sympathetic repair, fresh colour, restored timber, repaired gilding, or a completely new finish. Sometimes the frame itself is worth saving; sometimes it simply needs to be replaced or become something new.

The aim isn't always to make something look new. It's to bring out what is already there, preserve its character and give it the care it needs for its next chapter.
