First Nations Artworks
Framing with respect for both the artwork and its cultural context.
Artis Pura has extensive experience framing First Nations artworks on paper, canvas, bark, bark cloth and three-dimensional cultural objects. Each piece is approached with care and respect, with consideration given to its materials, construction, condition and the circumstances in which it will be displayed.
Wherever appropriate, I use conservation-quality materials and reversible techniques to support and protect the artwork for the future. Particular care is taken with delicate natural substrates such as bark and bark cloth, which may require specialised handling and custom support solutions.
I am especially drawn to Australian native timbers when framing First Nations artworks. Their warmth and organic grain can complement works made from natural materials without competing for attention. Where appropriate, I also favour float framing over conventional rebated frames, allowing the artwork to sit naturally within the frame while respecting its form and character.
No two works are approached in exactly the same way. I work with artists, collectors and custodians to consider the most appropriate balance between conservation, presentation and the individual requirements of each piece.
Artis Pura acknowledges the cultural significance and diversity of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art and approaches each work with sensitivity, respect and conservation-minded craftsmanship.
I also work with artists, collectors and people returning from remote communities, helping ensure culturally significant works are handled and framed with appropriate care and consideration.
