At Artis Pura, restoration and repair are a hands-on part of the work I particularly enjoy. I repair damaged and broken mouldings, replace missing sections, restore worn finishes and undertake traditional gilding and re-gilding. Some frames need a careful repair that preserves their age and patina; others can be given a more complete revival.

Gilding is a speciality of the workshop, from small repairs and colour matching through to more extensive restoration and hand-applied gold leaf. I enjoy the patience and precision involved in bringing a tired or damaged frame back to life.
Restoration isn't limited to antique frames, either. A much-loved frame that has become chipped, faded, or simply a little tired can often be refreshed, repaired, or reworked to give it a new lease on life.
Every restoration presents its own set of problems to solve — and that's part of the pleasure. Sometimes the repair is barely noticeable. Sometimes a frame needs a much more dramatic transformation.
